Questions about kitchens.

What is the most important decision in a kitchen renovation?
The layout. Cabinetry, counters, and appliances are all expensive, but a poor work triangle or a badly placed island is the thing you resent every single day.
How much clearance do I need around a kitchen island?
Plan on 42 to 48 inches of walkway between the island and perimeter cabinetry. Anything under 36 inches makes it hard to open a dishwasher with someone standing behind you.
Quartz or granite?
Quartz is engineered, non porous, consistent slab to slab, and needs no sealing. Granite is natural stone with more variation and requires periodic sealing. Neither is better in the abstract, it depends on how the kitchen is used.
Should cabinets go to the ceiling?
In most kitchens, yes. The gap above collects dust and reads as unfinished, and the storage is genuinely useful. Trim or a soffit detail can close the gap when full height cabinets are not in the budget. Kitchen & bath remodels →
